Terminology Service

The Terminology Service resolves coded values to standard terminologies — SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm — and to internal canonical codes.

Same lab code, same meaning

Without terminology normalisation, the same potassium result could appear as incompatible codes from different hospital feeds.

Behaviour

  • Caches hot mappings; falls back to terminology server for unknown codes.
  • Returns unmapped codes with explicit flags for steward review.
  • Called from the Mapping Engine during each map operation.
