Mapping Engine

The Mapping Engine applies versioned HL7→canonical rules: field copies, lookups, conditional branches and cardinality fixes.

Fail fast on bad maps

Missing mandatory mappings stop the pipeline before corrupt data reaches the EMPI — hospitals get a NAK path to reconcile.

Responsibilities

  • Selects rule set by message type and sending facility.
  • Invokes Terminology Service for coded fields.
  • Fails fast on missing mandatory mappings so bad data does not reach the EMPI.
  • Reads rules from Rule Repository.
