Laboratory System

The Laboratory System sends ORU^R01 result messages when wet-lab processing completes. Panic values must propagate to clinicians immediately.

Time-critical path

Unlike batch exports, lab results — especially critical ones — ride the same real-time ingestion path as other HL7 traffic, then through the Critical Flag Engine.

Typical flow

  1. Lab pushes ORU via MLLP to the HL7 Gateway.
  2. Codes are normalised via the Terminology Service.
  3. Values land in the Observation Service.
  4. Panic values surface in the Critical Alert Panel.
